As a result of the development that started with the foundation of the Ammunition Factory in 1925, the 12-housed Kırık village gained township status in 1929, municipal in 1941, and district status in 1944. Kırıkkale, which was a district of Ankara province until 21 June 21 1989, gained provincial status with the Law No. 3578.
